Mr. H.J. (Joe) Janthur, Director
Joe is a banker / financier with extensive national and international experience who holds several undergraduate
and postgraduate diplomas from Queen’s University, The Canadian Bankers’ Association, and The Institute of Canadian Bankers. He is the sole holder of the “Certificate in General Management with Honours” from the latter institution.
Initially with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), Joe held most posts in branch banking in Toronto and region, including supervisory and credit training positions, before being appointed as the bank’s representative in Zurich, Switzerland, and then Frankfurt, West Germany. In Frankfurt, in 1973-1974, he founded and managed a branch and then returned to Canada as the Chairman of the Canadian Bankers’ Association Study Group in the Bank Act Revision Committee. He then became the Superintendent of Business Development for CIBC from 1976-1980, and the Superintendent of Corporate Banking from 1980-1981.
He next served as the Vice President of the Bank of America Canada in Toronto before forming DEPAG Deposit Agency of Canada Inc. in November, 1983, a financial service corporation under contractual service to The Royal Bank of Canada and several other Canadian financial institutions.
Besides being the President of DEPAG Deposit Agency of Canada Inc. since 1983, Joe has held leadership positions on many Boards. He is the Past Chairman of the Association of Representatives of Foreign Banks in the Federal Republic of Germany, Past Vice President of the Canadian Exporters’ Association, Ontario Chapter, and a Past Director of the German-Canadian Business and Professional Association. He has served as Vice Chair of the ShareLife Corporate Appeal of the Archdiocese of Toronto from 1980-present, as a Representative of the Belarus Confederation of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs from 2002-present, and as a Director and Treasurer for the Greater Toronto Area Philatelic Alliance from 2005-present. He is also currently the Chair of the Central Ontario Export Club, of the Federation of Export Clubs of Canada, and of the Canada-Romania Business Council. Joe is a member of The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Toronto and a longstanding member of The Albany Club of Toronto.
