DR. ANNETTE LORENZ

Annette graduated with an Honours B.A. in Psychology from Guelph University, and then earned Masters and Doctoral degrees in Psychology from the University of Toronto. She became licensed in clinical psychology in Ontario in 1989 (Ed.D., C.Psych.).

Annette has had clinical practice focuses in health, disability, forensic and criminal psychology. She developed innovative individual and group psycho-educational coping skills programs for those with complex chronic clinical conditions. She has utilized movie clips and self-hypnotic techniques to help relieve distressing symptoms, promote restorative sleep, encourage self-management, and enhance health recovery and self-confidence with a special emphasis on the development of life purpose, quality of life and meaning regardless of health impairments.

She served as the president of CAPDA, (the Canadian Academy of Psychologists in Disability Assessment) from 2014 until 2016 and received the Founders’ Award of Excellence for her work with that organization. She served as the education chair of the Canadian Society of Clinical Hypnosis- Ontario Division, and, with her committee, developed popular annual Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced Courses in Clinical Hypnosis from 2004 through 2006. These courses were accredited as Continuing Education for physicians. Annette is currently a Fellow of the CSCH-OD.

Annette has worked as a contract staff member for the Canadian Forces in 2013 and 2014 to familiarize herself with the needs of those experiencing operational stress; she continues work in this capacity in her practice in Oakville and with Veterans’ Affairs.

Her interests include the development of treatment and assessment strategies for health issues that affect psychological functioning, and, from the psychological perspective, the support and enhancement of quality of life in times of major change and stress for the individual and his/her family. Her current work focus is in the development and improvement of the assessment process for psychological disability within many contexts and environments, and to determine the psychological and mental health issues that are inherent in any illness or injury. Her work includes psychological-legal assessments and expert witness testimony in complex cases.

Annette is listed with the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, and the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards. Both of these associations review and assess appropriate credentialing and assist in enhanced professional mobility within North America.
